Adults-Only Outrigger Canoe Snorkel Cruise with BBQ Lunch

4.9 (202 verified reviews)

About This Experience

Moana Adventure Tours collects you from your hotel and spends six hours on the lagoon aboard a Polynesian outrigger canoe, a long boat with a side float and a shade roof. The route covers about 26 miles around the lagoon with several swim and snorkel stops, including the Coral Garden, before the boat heads to a small private motu for a barbecue lunch. The listing gives the day as one 360-minute block without per-stop timings, and the captain can change the order or the spots if weather or lagoon conditions call for it.

In the water you can expect tropical fish over coral at the Coral Garden and a stop where blacktip reef sharks and stingrays gather. The listing says sharks and rays are not fed, that sightings cannot be guaranteed, and that no refund is given if the animals do not show. Several recent guests also report manta rays and schools of eagle rays, so treat those as a possible bonus. Lunch on the motu is a Polynesian spread with salads, fish, grilled meats and other local dishes.

This trip is for adults only (18 and over) and caps the group at six couples, so it suits honeymooners and couples who want a quieter boat and a long day with lunch built in. At $282 per person it costs more than the half-day shared boats on this site, and six hours is a big slice of a short stay. Families with children need a different listing, and anyone who mainly wants the sharks and rays can find a three-hour boat for less.

Hotel pickup and drop-off, a local guide speaking English and French, snorkel gear, life jackets, towels and lunch are covered; gratuities are not. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund. The same Moana trip is also listed on GetYourGuide from $270 per person, rated 5.0 from 35 reviews, while this Viator listing is rated 4.9 from 202 reviews.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the adults-only outrigger snorkel cruise cost?

It is $282 per person on Viator, with hotel pickup, snorkel gear and a barbecue lunch included. The same Moana trip is also listed on GetYourGuide from $270 per person. Gratuities are not included.

Can children join this tour?

No. The trip is for adults aged 18 and over only. Families with children should look at the half-day shared boats or a private boat on this site.

Will I see sharks and stingrays?

The itinerary includes a stop chosen because blacktip reef sharks and stingrays gather there, and most guests report both. They are wild animals and are not fed, so the operator does not guarantee sightings and gives no refund if they do not appear. Manta rays and eagle rays are possible but less predictable.

How big is the group?

The tour is limited to six couples, so twelve guests at most. Guests have reported boats of around eight people on some days.

What is served for lunch?

Lunch is a Polynesian barbecue on a private motu, with salads, fish, grilled meats and other local dishes. Tell the operator about allergies or dietary needs before the day.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

The listing rates it suitable for all fitness levels, and life jackets are provided along with the snorkel gear. You choose how long to stay in the water at each stop.
